Farewell to Rommel

Dr. Alex Melrose - Friday, November 05, 2010

Many of you will be sad to hear that our dear friend Rommel has lost his fight with bone cancer. He was always a huge goofy, playful personality at VetCare, wrestling with his toy collection and taking power naps. He would greet his legion of friends with squeals of enthusiasm, more like a little puppy than the 50kg of muscle that he was.

For the last few months he had been rapidly, and happily hopping around on 3 legs after having his hind leg amputated with bone cancer and we were devastated to find out the chemotherapy had been unsucessful and the cancer had spread to one of his front legs. He got to spend some quality time at home with Vanessa and little brother Bruiser (who licked his ears way too much for Rommel's liking), swimming and eating to his heart's content. He will no longer be there to greet us with his happy barking and gentle dignity but goes to a better place to be at peace, play tug of war with his toy ducks and get annoyed by Burmese and little furry dogs lying all over him. We will all miss him greatly and our thoughts go out to his devoted mum Vanessa who will be very sad without her best friend and companion for the last 10 years.

Please have a look at his lovely photos on his facebook page.
